About Author

Jonathan Jordan, MSW, LCSW, ACSW, has a love for both animals and neuroscience. For over two decades he has combined these two loves by incorporating animal-assisted interventions into his brain-based professional practice. For about a quarter century he has been affiliated with the Delta Society (now called Pet Partners), an internationally renowned organization dedicated to improving human well-being through nurturing interactions with animals. Jonathan is also a long-time member of the prestigious Society for Neuroscience, the world’s largest organization for the study of the brain, and is a charter member of the Society for Social Neuroscience. He has authored numerous articles and a book about using neuroscience to improve our everyday lives. He is currently writing another book about animal-assisted interventions that explains the neuroscience behind the human-animal bond. Over the years Jonathan, an experienced licensed psychotherapist and executive coach, has trained several of his own dogs to be therapy animals. Not only does Jonathan integrate his therapy dogs into his own practice, he also engages them with the clients of a variety of other medical and mental health professionals. He is passionate about motivating others to harness the power of the human-animal emotional bond to not only improve clinical outcomes, but to make the world a better place.

Jonathan began his career in the Himalayan kingdom where the Buddha was born. Having learned the language and immersing himself in the culture there, he discovered ancient Eastern practices that increased his ability to train his brain for self-development purposes. Jonathan later became a licensed psychotherapist in the United States and successfully blended these Eastern practices with Western knowledge to greatly improve the wellbeing of his clients. He was appointed a Faculty Fellow of Florida State University and through a series of nation-wide seminars he continues to train scores of other professionals in his unique synthesis of East-West brain-based practices that can greatly improve client wellbeing. Jonathan has also discovered that animal-assisted interventions can further enhance those outcomes, and improve the overall experience of the clinical process for both client and therapist.
