Chris Aiken

About Author

Chris Aiken, M.D., is a psychiatrist, author, and researcher. He is the coauthor of Bipolar, Not So Much, a self-help book for bipolar spectrum disorders that focuses on natural and lifestyle methods in recovery (Norton, 2017). He believes in choosing treatments that improve the long-term health of the brain through neuroprotection, and was a contributor to the first textbook on that subject in 2010. His work has been cited in the International Encyclopedia of Depression, and he is involved in clinical trials to identify new treatments for mood disorders.

Dr. Aiken’s interest in helping people with mood disorders came from experience with close friends who suffered from depression. He began his career as a research assistant at the National Institute of Mental Health and went on to complete medical school at Yale and residency at Cornell and Duke Medical centers. In 2008 he founded the Mood Treatment Center, a national referral center that provides combined therapy and medication treatment for complex mood disorders. He is an instructor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and has been ranked in Best Doctors of America since 2010.
