Harold G. Moore - Mike Guardia

About Author

Harold G. Moore is a retired Lieutenant General in the United States Army. A 1945 graduate of West Point, Moore first saw combat during the Korean War, where he fought in the battles of Old Baldy, T-Bone, and Pork Chop Hill. At the beginning of the Vietnam War, he commanded the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry in the Battle of Ia Drang, the first major battle between U.S. and North Vietnamese regulars. Together with Joseph Galloway, Moore later wrote of his experiences in the New York Times Bestseller, We Were Soldiers Once...and Young, which Hollywood later adapted into the film, We Were Soldiers, starring Mel Gibson.

After his retirement from active duty in 1977, Moore became the Executive Vice President of the Crested Butte Ski Area in Crested Butte, CO while maintaining a second home in Auburn, Alabama. Moore passed away on February 10, 2017 at the age of 94. His numerous awards include the Distinguished Service Cross, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Distinguished Graduate Award from the West Point Association of Graduates.

Mike Guardia is an Armor Officer in the United States Army Reserve. He served six years on active duty in a variety of staff and leadership roles. He holds a BA and MA in American History from the University of Houston. Since 2010, he has authored ten (10) books on various topics ranging from military history to children's literature. Guardia has twice been nominated for the Army Historical Foundation's Distinguished Writing Award and is a recipient of the Gold Medal Book Award from the Military Writers Society of America. He has given book presentations at the US Special Operations Command, the International Spy Museum, the George HW Bush Presidential Library, and the Decatur Book Festival.
